Shearing & Wool Classing Documents Available for Comment 

Share Your Feedback to Reach Consensus

Your feedback is encouraged on draft qualifications, skill sets and units for shearers, wool handlers, and wool classers, so that they align with the evolving skill needs of the job roles.

Feedback collected during the 'Broad Consultation' stage has been used to inform further updates to the drafts. They are now available on the Skills Insight website for 'Consensus Gathering' to check the revisions are in line with stakeholder needs and expectations.

Your input is crucial so that updates to the drafts are accurate and appropriate for industry, trainers and learners.

You are invited to participate in an online Consensus Gathering workshop where we will walk you through how to provide feedback and discuss some of the changes to the drafts.

Reminder to Provide Feedback 

Updated Livestock Operations Qualification & Units 

Your input is sought on updates to the draft Certificate III in Feedlot Operations and 70 units of competency that support the skills to work in the livestock industry.

You are encouraged to provide comment on the draft documents, which are now available on our website as part of the 'Consensus Gathering' stage. 

We are seeking feedback on updates to the qualifications and units, as well as the development of two new units for handling stock horses safely and branding livestock.

Stakeholder opinion is also sought on the detailed description of the term ‘good stock handling techniques’ that has been included in the updated Companion Volume Implementation Guide (CVIG).

Ag Trade Apprenticeship Project Update

The Ag Trade Apprenticeship Feasibility Report is available to download on our website. It outlines the insights provided by stakeholders during extensive consultation throughout the project and presents advice for how an agricultural trade apprenticeship could be implemented.

Skills Insight looks forward to the continued collaboration with industry as the next steps in establishing an ag trade apprenticeship are considered.

Rural Operations Project Update

The Certificate II in Rural Operations provides foundational skills required for roles across various industries in rural and regional Australia. This makes it a good example of what the Qualification Reform Design Group describe as a 'purpose 3' qualification in their advice to Skills Ministers as part of Qualification Reform. 

Skills Insight has been approved to undertake a Qualification Reform demonstration project using the Certificate II in Rural Operations to test the purpose-led approach.

Therefore the current Rural Operations Project has been paused to reduce disruptions and make the most efficient use of stakeholder time and energy.

Have Your Say on Training Demand and Supply Challenges

Consultation is taking place throughout this project to understand the factors complicating demand, delivery and uptake of VET training. Eleven industry areas have been identified for qualitative research including:

• arboriculture

• protected and production horticulture

• irrigation

• landscaping

• nursery operations

• permaculture

• pest management.

The project team continue to travel around the country conducting interviews and focus groups. You have the opportunity to participate and share insights into the factors impacting your industry.

Worker Safety Induction Pilot

Investigations are underway into what a national safety induction program could look like for agriculture and related industries, at the recommendation of the Agriculture Workforce Working Group (AWWG).   

The meat industry has been chosen to develop and pilot such a program, with consultations taking place to collect stakeholder feedback on what a national safety induction program might look like.

From Training Package to Training Delivery

In collaboration with Griffith University, Skills Insight is undertaking a research project to explore how RTOs translate training package content into curriculum and the challenges this presents. 

The insights from this research will provide insight into what additional support could be offered to RTOs to develop effective learning resources and what changes could be made to units of competency and qualifications to better support translation into learner centric training materials.

A range of training providers have been interviewed and a survey has been sent out RTOs to provide feedback. You are welcome to get in touch at any time throughout the project to be involved.
